The disengagement torque defines the torque that prevents damage to the drive components and other machine parts in the event of an overload or collision.
The disengagement torque can always be set between 40% and 100% of the nominal coupling torque.

When selecting the hub bores, the type-specific information for the minimum diameter Dmin and maximum diameter Dmax must be observed. Smaller hub bores below Dmin are often possible, but transmission of the full nominal torque is not guaranteed. Furthermore, it must be checked whether the standard bore tolerance of G6 or G7 is suitable for the existing shaft tolerance. Different bore tolerances are possible on request. Please note that for safety couplings for direct drives, the specification D2 is specified for the side of the safety part.
Torsional rigidity: CTK - [Nm/arcmin] When specifying the specific torsional stiffness values (torsional stiffness) of all coupling series, a change was made from the previous unit specification [1kNm/rad] to the unit “newton meter per angular minute”. This makes it quite easy for the designer to determine the corresponding torsion angle errors based on the operating torque. 60 angular minutes (or arc minutes) correspond to one angular degree. This results in the conversion factor 1 rad ≙ 57.3° ≙ 3438 arcmin. [1Nm/arcmin ≙ 3.44kNm/rad]
The type-specific values can be viewed in the data sheet of the respective coupling.

How large is the required shaft compensation?
The specification +,++,+++ refer to the lateral shaft misalignment, since the axial and angular misalignment are usually rather unproblematic.
The maximum permissible values for the shaft misalignments can be found in the data sheet of the respective coupling. If the permissible offset values are exceeded, fatigue fractures on the metal bellows or excessive wear of the elastomer spider may occur.
Operating temperatures
As an all-metal couplings, metal bellows couplings are extremely insensitive to temperature. Series with aluminum clamping hubs can be used without restrictions from -40 ° C to 150 ° C, briefly up to + 200 ° C. In the case of series with welded steel or stainless steel hubs, the maximum operating temperature is 350 ° C. The application limit of the elastomer couplings is 90 ° C (98 Sh-A) or 120 ° C (72 Sh-D).
As all-metal couplings, JAKOB safety couplings are insensitive to temperature. All series for indirect drive as well as the series with metal coupling attachment can be used from -40 °C to +150 °C without restrictions. The operating temperatur limit of the series with elastomer coupling attachment is 90 °C (98 Sh-A) or 120 °C (72 Sh-D).
Drive RPM:
The type-specific maximum permissible operating speed can be taken from the respective data sheet. Coupling types with rotationally symmetrical hub variants, as well as welded bellows-hub connections are particularly suitable for high speeds and good balance quality. In the case of spacer couplings, the bending-critical speed calculation of the intermediate tube usually determines the speed limit.
In general, all coupling types can be supplied in balanced or fine-balanced design.
For distance couplings, the critical whirling speed calculation for the intermediate tube usually determines the speed limit. The maximum permissible operating speed drops considerably with larger overall lengths of the coupling or the intermediate pipe (Lmax = 3m or 6m). The WDS and Simple-Flex series are particularly suitable for high speeds. Special designs with carbon fiber intermediate tube significantly increase the speed limit.
The maximum operating speed of safety couplings should not exceed 4,000 rpm - for sizes above 1000 Nm nominal torque, the maximum speed should be 3000 rpm. Rotationally symmetrical hub designs as well as series with elastomer coupling attachments are best suited for high speeds. Balancing is possible upon customer request.

The axial pluggability is achieved by a backlash-free keyway connection in whole metal version (aluminum anodized). For this, one part of the hub is delivered as a conical carrier, the counterpart with a congruent conical keyway.

Very seldomly, metal bellows couplings may have resonance sounds (e.g. a whistling or a humming). A type of coupling with significantly higher torsional stiffness or vibration dampening elastomer couplings should be used here.
Electrically insulating couplings, such as elastomer couplings with their plastic element (spider), are required if no static charge may be passed on.
